  3. Your Voice Matters
You have a voice in your co-op

Do you pay a bill to an electric cooperative? Then you are a MEMBER, and an OWNER, of your co-op. As a member, your opinion matters to your co-op.

But how do you actually make your voice heard? There are many things you can do, including taking member surveys, participating in the annual meeting, voting in your board elections, joining co-op committees, talking with your co-op board or staff and even running for the board!

Your Voice, Your Co-op

As a member of your electric cooperative, you are NOT a customer, you are an owner. That means you get a say in how things are run.

Share Your Opinion with Surveys
Your co-op may ask for your input through surveys, focus groups or other online feedback to learn what matters most to you. Your ideas help guide decisions that your co-op makes, such as new programs and long term planning.

Learn and Take Part
Each year your co-op holds an annual meeting. It may be an in-person, drive-through or online meeting; but whichever way your co-op conducts the meeting, you can ask questions, hear financial updates, get election results and meet your director candidates. Find your co-op and learn more specifics about their annual meeting!

Vote for Your Board of Directors
You get to vote for fellow members, your neighbors and community members, to represent you on the Board of Directors. It’s one member, one vote, no matter how much electricity you use. Directors guide the co-op, set policies, oversee finances and help shape the future.

Make Important Decisions Together
Sometimes you may be asked to vote on proposals to change bylaws or other key policies. Every vote helps shape how the co-op operates.

Your voice matters. Just one of the many benefits of being an electric cooperative member!
