If you’re a co-op member, you understand that cooperatives are different from your traditional utility company. Cooperatives are driven by our desire to provide the best utility service to all, with each of us playing a part as members of the cooperative. In times such as these, it’s more important than ever for members, like you, to know how critical you are to our mission, and what your cooperative is doing for you to ensure your power is always safe and operational. Today, we want to assure you that your co-op is providing you with reliable, affordable power, no matter what else is going on in the world.
Electricity is a need, especially with so many of us working from home, or for those of us who have children who need to do schoolwork online. Reliability has always been a pillar of what we do, as electricity is a necessity in modern life. Since our beginning, we’ve made an effort to ensure our electricity is as reliable as possible.
One of the ways we accomplish this goal of reliability is through our transmission system. Our cooperatives and G&T owners have carefully planned our transmission lines to allow for electricity flow at all times. Even if one major transmission line is out of service, our alternate pathways ensure that you still receive electricity.
We also offer a dedicated team who works day in and day out to make sure our lines are operational. Our cooperative linemen are integral to making sure our power lines are functional and operating safely. Linemen are on the front lines of keeping our power grid working at all times, doing whatever it takes to keep our homes and businesses powered. If not for their brave work, our cooperatives would not be nearly as functional as they are today.
We’re proud to provide affordable rates to our member cooperatives and each of our individual members. We are able to do this by carefully managing our financials and understanding the needs of our members. As power is essential, we realize that our members need reasonable rates for their electricity.
We generate electricity through a variety of methods, allowing us to get electricity at the lowest rates possible. We start with hydropower when available, then coal, natural gas and wind. This mix not only provides certainty that there will be power, it also helps us to get a low rate on the power we receive. Once we have served the energy needs of our members, we are then able to sell the electricity to others, allowing us to build revenue and put more money back into the pockets of our members.
Helping our members save money through energy efficiency is also a goal of ours. As part of our Members First and Take Control and Save initiatives, we aim to keep our members informed of all of the ways they can keep themselves safe and lower their energy bills. We regularly provide content on our blog and social media outlets to help you make your home as energy efficient as possible. We encourage you to explore this content if you’re looking to further lower your bill, as the tips listed can be a huge help to your wallet.
We pride ourselves on being responsible for your power, which means that we must be responsible stewards of the power we distribute. Part of that responsibility comes from our power generation. Though all of our power doesn’t come from renewable resources, we are constantly looking for the best way to be efficient with our resources and methods of generation. On that same note, we are aware of our responsibility to provide affordable power to all. Our members often live in rural communities and, through our cooperatives, they are able to connect to the grid and power their homes. Thus, we understand our duty to our members and strive to bring them the best possible service we can. Each of our members play a key role in our operations, and we’re grateful for all they do.
